The 2017 Maryland Market Money application is now open!

by Shelley Brosius

It feels like it was yesterday that many farmers markets closed for the season. Yet we know all too well just how quickly the summer farmers market season will roll around! For all of us in the farmers market world, this is the time to plan. Is it possible that planning your farmers market might involve applying to participate in MDFMA’s Maryland Market Money program?

In 2016, 21 farmers markets across the state participated in the Maryland Market Money program, providing food-insecure Marylanders with matching dollars when they used their federal nutrition benefits at market. Maryland Market Money can be a great boon for your market: it helps low-income Marylanders increase their purchasing power at market while also bolstering market vendors’ weekly sales. However, the perks of this program come with added responsibility: participation in Maryland Market Money requires administrative work for market staff. Check out our page on Offering Maryland Market Money at Your Market to learn more about whether Maryland Market Money is a good fit for your market. If you still have questions, feel free to reach out by emailing: sbrosius@marylandfma.org.

For those who have decided ‘Yes, Maryland Market Money IS a good fit for my market!’, click here to access the online application. We’re interested in hearing from you and figuring out if we can help bring matching dollars to your market!
