Meet AmeriCorps VISTA Will McCabe!

Please welcome our newest team member, AmeriCorps VISTA Will McCabe! We’re delighted that Will is dedicating a year of service to the Maryland Farmers Market Association and our partners, markets, and constituents statewide.

Will was born and raised in Baltimore, MD.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Sustainability Science from of Furman College, where he was the Bank of America Sustainability Fellow for 2014 and Community Service and Philanthropy Chair for Sigma Nu.

Will brings a variety of experiences to the MDFMA, including work with Keep Greenville County Beautiful (Board Administrator Intern), David E. Shi Center for Sustainability (Transportation Fellow), and Furman’s International Studies Abroad Program (Global Ambassador).

In addition, Will has experience working in the world of food access, having used Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to measure healthy and affordable food access in Greenville, South Carolina for his senior thesis. The results of his GIS work was presented at the 2015 Association of American Geographers (AAG) Annual Spring Conference (2015).

Will’s hobbies include: disc golf, Baltimore Social kickball league, traveling, biking, and attending Ravens and Orioles games.

Will will be out and about at markets working on Maryland Market Money and a variety of other projects, so don’t be afraid to say hi and welcome him to our team (or you can send him a note here)!

Fun Facts

  • Played baseball for Larry Sheets and Cal Ripken, Jr. in high school
  • Lived in Australia for 5 months (college study abroad)
  • Worked at the National Aquarium in Baltimore in high school
