This year the Maryland Farmers Market Association (MDFMA) is proud to sponsor 4 farmers market in Montgomery County, thanks to the generous support of the Montgomery County Council, by assisting with the administration of federal nutrition incentive programs at market.
Crossroads Farmers Market in Montgomery County was the first market in the country to offer a federal nutrition incentive program, so Montgomery County has a strong track record of supporting these programs. Three of the farmers markets partnering with MDFMA this year (Rockville, FRESHFARM Silver Spring, and Crossroads) have committed funding to their respective markets for incentive dollars to bolster their redemption of federal nutrition benefits.
Federal nutrition incentives are available to customers who spend their SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), WIC-FVC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for Women, Infants, and Children-Fruit and Vegetable Checks), or FMNP-Senior/WIC (Farmers Market Nutrition Assistance Program-Senior/WIC) benefits at market.
Federal nutrition incentive programs in Montgomery County vary, as noted below. Be sure to check with your local market to see what type of incentives are available!
