Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP – WIC & Seniors) and Fruit & Vegetable Check Program (FVC) Training on February 14

The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), in conjunction with the Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DHMH) will be offering the annual training sessions for farmers to become authorized to participate in the Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP – WIC & Seniors) and the Fruit & Vegetable Check Program (FVC).

MDA administers the FMNP and DHMH administers the FVC, and they have partnered so that there is one joint application for both programs for farmers who choose to accept these checks for low-income participants to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers markets throughout Maryland.  Face to face training and submission of the full application is required once every three years; in the interim years a farmer must submit which farmers markets he or she will be selling at for the season.

New this Year: It is required that farmers must RSVP for the session he/she will be attending here:

Any session having less than 5 people signed up for it will be cancelled. Cancellation will be determined 48 hours prior to the session.

This is the first of 12 training opportunities this year; the time and location are:

  • St. Mary’s County: Charlotte Hall Library, 37600 New Market Road, Charlotte Hall. 9:30am – 12 Noon. (map)
