The Maryland Buy Local Challenge is just around the corner! Participation is easy, all you need to do is pledge to eat at least one thing from a Maryland farm every day of the week, July 22nd to July 30th.
Maryland is brimming with beautiful locally grown food these days, including (but not limited to) sweet corn, juicy peaches and plums, snappy green beans, and vine-ripened tomatoes. So taking the pledge and sticking with it should be easy and delicious. For a complete list of what’s in season, check out our July shopping list.
If a week of glorious summer eating isn’t motivation enough, know that your participation bolsters the rural Maryland economy. According the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission, if every household purchased just $12 worth of Maryland farm products for eight weeks (basically the summer season), over $200 million would be put back into the pockets of our local farmers!
Take the pledge today (you’ll automatically be entered to win a t-shirt).
Bonus: The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission is hosting a not-to-be-missed 10th Anniversary Bash on July 31st at Robin Hill Farm. Get your tickets here.
See you at a Maryland market soon!
