The Maryland Farmers Market Association (MDFMA) was founded in 2012 to connect people with Maryland farmers markets and to provide resources and coordinated services to market managers, farmers and consumers alike. A statewide nonprofit, the MDFMA operates programs to provide access to healthy local food for all and improve the quality of and transparency at Maryland farmers markets.
The mission of the MDFMA is to cultivate a vibrant and sustainable farmers market community in the state of Maryland by:
providing services and programs to improve the quality and capacity of Maryland farmers markets.
providing training and technical assistance for market vendors, managers and governing boards.
working to increase access to farmers markets for Maryland’s residents and visitors, including low- income consumers.
providing a forum and repository for the exchange of ideas and resources relating to farmers markets.
being an effective voice for education and representation of all Maryland citizens on farmers market issues.
informing market members about changes in the legal environment and, when necessary, to act as a liaison between farmers markets and state and local governments, as well as public and private organizations.
collecting data and conducting research on the status, needs and benefits of farmers markets.
to build upon and maintain the physical, cultural and economic assets of Maryland’s farmers market.
to aid and participate in the activities of other organizations, individuals and public and private entities located within and outside the state of Maryland such as are engaged in similar or related purposes.
pursuing other objectives as determined by the membership.
